Prayers for Blogging
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
– Francis of Assisi
Ineffable Creator –
You are proclaimed
the true font of light and wisdom,
and the primal origin
raised high beyond all things.
Pour forth a ray of Your brightness
into the darkened places of my mind;
disperse from my soul
the twofold darkness
into which I was born:
sin and ignorance.
You make eloquent the tongues of infants.
Refine my speech
and pour forth upon my lips
the goodness of Your blessing.
Grant to me
keenness of mind,
capacity to remember,
skill in learning,
subtlety to interpret,
and eloquence in speech.
guide the beginning of my work,
direct its progress,
and bring it to completion.
You Who are true God and true Man,
Who live and reign, world without end.
– Thomas Aquinas
Lord, help me to take each person at his word. You alone know his motives; I simply do not.
Lord, grant me love to put out the flamewars. If I have no wisdom to do so, give me the strength to simply log out.
Lord, you have not appointed me teacher to the blogosphere. What I think is only my opinion.
Lord, keep me from paying compliments as a prelude to attacking someone’s position. I shall write no kind word unless I am willing to let it stand on its own.
Lord, help me to realize that pontificating about love is no substitute for showing love to a flesh-and-blood person. Help me to be a real disciple, not a virtual e-Christian.
Lord, perhaps I should not be sitting here on this computer at all. Are you calling me to do something else?
Lord, help me to get a life. A new life in Christ!
